The Meaning of Life, extract from The Leader Board

MORE money is often the reason for someone changing their job while others seek a better balance between their work and personal life. Now, in this period of economic turmoil, a growing number simply want to find a career that has more personal meaning.

The worldwide recession is causing people to reflect more deeply on whether they are on the right career path. From there they are making radical career decisions in a bid for greater job satisfaction. With all of us spending around a third of our waking lives at work, many people are asking themselves just what it is they are getting out of that time and personal fulfilment is taking on a greater importance.

In spite of the increased pressures concerning jobs and finance, many people are prepared to take a drop in salary providing they are able to achieve a greater sense of satisfaction in the workplace, perhaps by turning their passion into their own business.

It takes a brave person to reach out in this way and maybe you are one of those willing to give it a go. If money isn't your slave, what have you got to lose?

I made this type of decision about four years ago and am now doing the job I love, freelance journalism, which is very rewarding and fulfilling.

It doesn't pay as well as my previous role but I am happy, and that counts for a lot.

Would love to be that brave as to throw caution to the wind and make a career decision to enjoy myself. Unfortuantely, I have to pay the bills and it would not be practical. Nice idea though.

Some of these articles are well received, others aren't, that's the way it goes. Feel free to give feedback.
