Meetings
LIKE it or not, much of our time, and energy, is spent in company meetings. We can make of these what we will.
Treat them as a waste of time and that is what they will become. Use them to pass the time, and that is what they will do. However, utilise them to better understand your peers and organisation, and to build rapport, and the time will not be wasted. It will be an investment – with some fun thrown in as well.

I can't see how meetings have that much value.
I am about to have an assessment at work and there is nobody in the business who sees what I do. I am being assessed from the outside as, being the boss, there isn't really anybody who can assessment my performance other than the bods at head office.
Okay, they can see results. But can they see my personality shine through in figures, no. Can they see what I do for morale at the business, no. Are they aware of my interpersonal skills, no, unless they talk to the others in the building.
So the meeting I am about to have is a waste of time, for me anyway. Not so much for the company, as they have to be seen to gaving appraisal meetings. It's not liek I'm on performance related pay either. Like I say, waste of time.
Sounds VERY familiar - at present, business is concentrating on 'the bottom line' with little or no thought to how short term gains might become longer term losses. Unless they think it to their advantage, proprietors are doing as little as they can get away with and as much as they think they can get away with negatively. No wonder there is so little 'feel good' factor around at the moment. I have never known somebody call a meeting to praise a member of staff.

In a meeting I had the other day, I was told i was not on the best form at work and they were looking to replace me. Landscape gardner or not, that hurts. I intend to fight for my job but I'm finding out the hard way that life is still tough out there.
